How do you start to decide where to go on holiday? There is just so much choice! Many people choose the Canary Islands because of the Tenerife weather, but surely there is more to it than that? There is great weather in Greece.

Are there any other good reasons to visit the island? Or is it just about the weather? Well plenty of resorts in the South mean that it isnt hard to pick up a great deal, even during the summer. You dont have to be pigeon holed into cheap but basic accommodation either, there are plenty of really smart five star properties on the island too. If you dont want to, you dont really need to leave the resorts as they have everything that you need. You should be able to find all your home comforts right there in the resort. The beaches are made with imported sand from the Sahara too, so there is plenty of space.

But what if you arent the sort of person who is just looking for sunny Tenerife weather when you are deciding where to go on holiday.

If you are looking for adventure or culture surely you would need to look somewhere else?

Tenerife holidays may not be famous for cultural breaks, but stand by for a shock as there are plenty of great cultural activities in Tenerife. You really just need to get off the beach and out of the theme pub and leave the resort.

You dont even have to go that far from the resort. Take a one hour bus ride to Santa Cruz, the capital of the Canaries. It is almost like stepping into a different world compared to the bold and brash purpose built resort of Playa de las Americas.

You dont tend to see too many tourists in Santa Cruz and you are much more likely to enjoy an authentic look at local life.

When you are thinking about when to go to Tenerife it is hard to decide as there really isnt a bad time. Well although it is cooler in winter, you can expect year round good weather. In fact, with such reliable weather you should probably give more though to what is going on around the island. Carnival time in February can be a great time for a holiday in Tenerife. It is often said that the only carnival in the world more exciting than Santa Cruz is in Rio itself!

It isnt just carnival though, there are interesting events all year. How about the Noche de San Juan which is another great time to be on the island? Any festival that ends with beach bonfires and chilled out parties has to be a great holiday event. The festival also happens just before the school holidays so you can also get a great deal on your trip.
